Offer Eid prayers at nearby mosques: Govt

The government has urged the Muslims to offer their prayers in the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festival of the Muslims, at their respective nearby mosques instead of Eidgah or open places to check the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
The call was made at an inter-ministerial virtual meeting ahead ofthe Eid-ul-Azha at the religious affairs ministry with its secretary Md Nurul Islam in the chair this afternoon, said a press release.
As per decisions taken in the meeting, the country’s main Eid congregation will be held at Baitul Mukkaram National Mosque instead of National Eidgah in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.


President M Abdul Hamid and prime minister Sheikh Hasina will give separate messages on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha.
National flag will be hoisted atop all government and non-government buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad while banners inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’ will be put at key traffic islands in the capital. Designated government and important military buildings will be illuminated to mark the festival.


In light with the national programme, every division, district,upazila, city corporation, municipality and Armed Forces Division and non-government agencies will formulate respective programme to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha.
State-run Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will broadcast special programmes and national dailies will also publish special supplements highlighting significance of the event.
